Piezo-electric driven switches are especially designed for fast switching – measured in milliseconds – low loss and high repeatability. Piezo actuators enable the optical switch to couple optical fibers with an accuracy of a few microns. The high accuracy of positioning of the piezo-electric actuators guarantees a light transmission of > 80%.
Standard switch configurations range from 1-input to 2-outputs, up to 1-input to 9-outputs. Fiber switches can also be used the other way around,from 2-inputs to 1-output, up to 9-inputs to 1-output. Standard fiber diameters range from 50 to 600 micrometers. A variety of connectors are available.

The small size of the fiber switch and the easy control make these fiber optic switches ideally suited for use as components of spectrometers or other metrology devices. Switch systems with many more output channels can be achieved by cascading multiple fiber switches.
New! Humidity Resistant Fiber Switches
Additionally – fiber switches are now also available in special humidity resistant models. By applying a silicon coating to internal components, these unique fiber switches are shielded from high levels of moisture in the air. This greatly increases their ability to withstand relative humidity up to 98% before failure. These special humidity resistant fiber switches are ideal for humid industrial environments, and applications involving operation in non-climate-controlled spaces. This functionality is available in all fiber switch configurations, will not increase lead time, and adds minimal cost.
