The piezoelectric actuator based gripper system was mainly designed for micropositioning and handling applications. The accurate and high speed motion of a piezoceramic is transformed by the levered transmission (flexure hinges) of a solid state hinge joint to a 300 µm opening of the gripper gap.
Because of the compact dimensions, the piezoelectric gripper is ideally suited for OEM applications. The mechanic design offers freedom to modify stage dimensions and fixing points upon customer's request. Especially gripper tools can be adapted easily and an exchanging quickly.
Because of the flexible structure of the piezo based driven system applications are in the field of instruments for physic, for biological setups and for robotic systems. All kinds of handling, micropositioning and manipulation of small parts in research labs or industry are potential applications of the piezogripper.
