Product Description

The PSH 20/2 and PSH 35/2 are part of a new series of tip-tilt systems designed to deliver high dynamics with resonant frequencies of up to 2 kHz and a wide tilt range of up to 44 mrad in open-loop. The same housing allows customers to choose between the PSH 20/2 (optimized for rapid tilt applications with lower capacitance and reduced energy consumption), and the PSH 35/2 (which offers a longer stroke and a broader temperature range) – ideal for achieving the highest precision in challenging environments.

These actuators provide tilt to the top plate on 2 rectangular axes. The construction is temperature compensated so that changes of the surrounding temperature do not affect the tilting angle. These tilting positioning stages are designed for plus/minus tilting. The mirror mounts are preloaded, thus they are well suited for dynamic applications. Strain gauge (SG) variants are optional and provide a precision feedback measurement system.

The PSH 20/2 and PSH 35/2 are designed for mirrors with a maximum diameter of 32 mm.

PSH Series — Space Qualified by European Space Agency

Developed in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA) for the SQATTS (Space Qualified Tilting Systems) project, the PSH 20/2 and PSH 35/2 systems have successfully met the rigorous standards for space qualification. The technology phase confirmed the actuator’s ability to perform two essential functions in optical communication: serving as a Fine Steering Mirror (FSM) to compensate for external disturbances, and as a Point-Ahead Mechanism (PAM) to accurately offset the beam for satellite movement. Integrating these dual functions into a single PSH design allows optical system integrators to realize significant reductions in both effort and overall cost. The resulting space-qualified design offers:

  • Highest Precision: Achieve maximum pointing accuracy with zero mechanical play due to the piezo’s virtually unlimited positioning resolution.
  • Extreme Robustness: Guaranteed to survive the severe shock and vibration loads of launch, coupled with an exceptional lifetime.
  • Low Power Consumption: An ideal choice for power-limited platforms, as the capacitive nature of the piezo actuators requires no power to hold a set position.

The proven performance criteria established by ESA make the PSH series an excellent choice not only for O-ISL, but also for precision needs in critical production environments, such as those found in the semiconductor manufacturing industry.
