Motion range and resolution of a chosen linear stages depend on the initial requirements of an application and its purpose. You choose a system which fits your current requirements best. Over time however, requirements can change. Usually resolution and therefore precision has to increase. Once a linear stage is chosen, later changes are not easily made. Worst case: Exchange the stage completely, which is technically complicated and expensive. piezosystem jena developed a solution for this problem. It is an upgrade for existing linear stages and setups to increase precision in retrospect – no complete overhaul necessary: The MICI piezo micrometer screwdrivers.

Sounds complicated? It is a rather elegant solution. The MICIs by piezosystem jena dock on the micrometer screw of a exiting linear stage and adjust the position of it with the highest precision using a piezo stage. Thanks to the MICI drives, even linear positioners with long travel ranges can achieve the precision levels of a piezo stage. Individual MICI models allow for up to 250 µm travel and resolutions down to the sub-nanometer range. Thanks to their unique construction, the systems are capable of handling heavy loads and generate push forces up to 170 N.
